Samsung Electronics tops Q3 world smartphone market

Samsung Electronics was again the world's
top smartphone maker in the third quarter with a global market share of more than 21
percent. According to market researcher Strategy Analytics,
Samsung shipped nearly 85 million smartphones during the third quarter, boosting its market
share by 1 percentage point. Shipments were up 11 percent on-year, which
analysts attributed to strong demand for the company's middle and low-price series A and
J, as well as the S premium lines, especially in Latin America and India. The market share of Samsung's U.S. rival Apple
actually shrank slightly to 11-point-9 percent. A notable performance also from Chinese smartphone
maker Xiaomi, whose share jumped from 4 to 7 percent.
